Ten on Tuesday: College Prep Week!

1. Today was officially my last day of babysitting for the summer. Cody, Kyle, and I had a good day, although Kyle was only with us for half of the day, as he had a dentist appointment. It seems so odd to think that summer is essentially over for us. I really had fun watching the boys this summer, even if it was a little bit stressful for me at times. I will miss getting to see my nephews all the time when I am at college. Today, Kyle told me that he wanted me to bring a teddy bear that he gave me earlier this year to college with me, so I wouldn't forget about him. (Yes, I have already packed it.)

2. Of course, since today was my last day of babysitting, that only means one thing: Tomorrow is the first day of school for Cody, Kyle, and Wyatt. For once, their schools coordinated on the day, so hopefully, my mom and I will go over to their houses to take the ceremonial "first day of school" picture, including a group picture of the three boys. All three boys are very excited about going back to school, which I take to be a good sign. I can't wait to hear their reactions and see their papers tomorrow night! Good luck boys!!!

3. Yesterday afternoon, after dropping Cody and Kyle off with Emily, my mom and I went to get some things that I will need for my dorm. We had a successful trip, as I was able to find everything on my list! The biggest items that I purchased were a plastic 5-drawer set, a mini vacuum, a mattress pad, and a lamp. I also got some random cleaning/household items, which seemed odd, since I have never bought any of those things before. I realized that I am one step closer to adulthood by having to buy those things. On a final note, I got a good bargain on my vacuum! It is a Bissell 3-in-1 model that is a lightweight model that can be changed to work like a Dustbuster (making it portable). It also has a crevice tool, and looks like it will be perfect for the stairs in my dorm room! Woo-Hoo!!!

4. I started packing earlier this evening. I have been pretty successful as of yet, getting my kitchen and bathroom supplies, my bedding, and a box of miscellaneous items all packed! I am about half to two-thirds done packing, but I had to put my packing on hiatus because I ran out of boxes. Thankfully, Gina and Emily both had plenty of boxes that they were willing to share with me! Thanks, guys! :)

5. You might notice that I left out one rather important thing--my clothes. The thought of moving my clothes is a little bit perplexing to me. I don't want to over pack, leaving me with no clothes when I come home on the weekends, but I definitely don't want to underpack and not have something when I'm in town. I wish that teleportation would be a possibility, so that I would never have that problem, but there's no such luck! I know, it's not THAT big of a deal to not have something, because if I really need it, I have plenty of ways to get it easily, including just going home. It's not that bad, but still.

6. The plan is for me to move in on Thursday morning. The absolute earliest for me to move in is 10:00 that morning, so I will do my best to get everything together tomorrow and get there around 10 or 10:30. I'll let you know how well that works out! Hopefully, I'll be able to post some pictures of my dorm on Thursday night!

7. I was able to scrounge up a table and some chairs for the dorm. For the past week, my dad had been telling me about an ad he found for a table in the classified section in the newspaper. Last Friday, he happened to call about it, finding out that the guy was selling what sounded like a nice table. The next day, Gina, Andy, my mom, and I all went to look at it, and we decided to buy it for $50, which was a reasonable price for a 48" dia. solid wood table with a 2' leaf. Gina already happened to have a smaller drop-leaf table in her nook area, and we decided, after seeing the table, that we would get the table for Gina, and Gina would let me use her table. We also happened to have some chairs in our garage that would work nicely, so I am all set in that department!

8. If you happen to remember me mentioning issues with my PLC scholarship, I have an update! The scholarship money has been credited to my account!!! I still have one minor issue...I am waiting for my money from two private scholarships and my OHLAP (tuition) to be refunded to me. I don't expect to hear anything about that money for another week or so, but I hope that I won't have to fight too much to get it back!

9. I have talked to Carissa twice in the past week. From the little bit that I have talked to her, I think that I will have a good year with her as my roommate! She seems to be very nice and easygoing. I think I am lucky because she has said that she likes to keep the dorm clean (her roommate last year didn't clean). We have already ironed out a few details in our plans, like pooling our cleaning supplies/toilet paper/paper towels, etc. I am also fortunate in the fact that she has many things from last year, including a microwave, dishes, and a few other things that she said that she would be more than willing to share with me. (I don't want to be a mooch, though.) It will be one less expense for me for the time being, and I will now have another year to slowly stockpile a few things for next year. Of course, as the year goes on, I will have more stories to tell about dorm life, and about Carissa herself.

10. On a final note, Shea has been in Norman for almost a week. She is rushing this week, so I wish her the best of luck! Tonisha will be moving on Thursday, like me. Mary moved some of her things to Edmond last Saturday, but she is still in town, because her last day of work isn't until Saturday. I mentioned in a previous post that I didn't exactly get to tell Mary bye, but I think that we might try to hang out for a while tomorrow night, before she is officially gone! I continue to wish all of them luck in their ventures!

  1. You do realize that home will only be twenty five minutes away and that, should you need anything, I or anyone will be more than happy to run it up to you. Don't worry...be happy, be brave, be friendly and smart. GO TO CLASS (you will find that many students don't, they think they are there to play or something but you know differently.)

  2. The first week of college is beyond fun. Continue to be your outgoing self and you will do great. Make tons of friend and don't just study, do all the fun college stuff. I just studied and regret it!
    Happy moving in week!
