After having a not-entirely-great week last week, I have had a wonderfully great week this week, and I am ever so thankful!
Sunday was a good start to my week, as I woke to rain (my favorite!). Church was nice, and we had our shrine celebration later, which I also enjoyed. By the time the day was over, I had taken about two naps, which are also my favorite, especially when accompanied by rainy weather. Eventually, I got everything loaded up, and I trucked back to town in the rain. The remainder of Sunday night was pretty uneventful, as Carissa never gets back until late on Sunday nights (like 11:00 or midnight, usually).
After a lazy, rainy Sunday, Monday brought forth a beautiful, sunny day, that left me with LOTS to do. I woke up feeling pretty frazzled, but I decided that everything would work out as it should. All of my Monday classes went well, and I accomplished all of the tasks I needed to. As usual, I was waiting for my 1:30 lab and doing my Trig homework in the meantime. (Yes, I do my homework as I should.) I just so happened to check my phone for the time, and I noticed that I received a text from Tevis asking me if I wanted to join him on a trip to DaVinci's (a local coffeehouse). It was so ironic that that happened, as I was supposed to meet a lady there at 4:15. After I got out of my lab, I met him at his house, and we headed to DaVinci's with his stepsister, Brooke, and his bff, Alex. It was my first time to ever meet Brooke, and we got along nicely. I really have to hand it to Tevis, as he was sweet enough to sit through my meeting, which was something that I wasn't going to make him do :) (Alex and Brooke left before my meeting, btw) We headed back over to his house, and his mom, Kim, had me stay for supper (Monday really was a great day!). After eating, I made the quick trip back to NOC so I could do my two hours of tutoring, and then I was invited back to have some ice cream and watch a movie. Our ice cream was just great, as could be expected! Then, we were going to watch one movie (I'm not certain which one), but Tevis's little sister really wanted to watch her Winnie the Pooh movie, so we obliged. After the movie, I finally went back to my dorm and ended my Monday.
Tuesday was just as good, although it is my early day. I know, it's only an 8:30 class, but it's early for me! After having an uneventful afternoon, Carissa came back from her classes and we decided to head over to the cafeteria for supper. We had already decided to go to the volleyball game at 6:30, but we still had quite a bit of time after supper, so we went over to the library, where I printed off a few assignments to turn in the following day. While in the library, I was sitting and waiting for my computer to boot up after I logged on. (Their computers are notoriously slow at logging on.) I was feeling a bit tired, so I happened to rest my head in my hands for a few moments while waiting. Suddenly, I saw a guy come over to me and say, "Hey, are you alright?" I honestly didn't think he was talking to me, because there was a lady sitting next to me. Turns out that he was, and that he thought that I was on the verge of a mental breakdown or that I was very "downtrodden" (his exact words), because of my appearance. I was quite surprised that he thought so, but politely told him that I was just waiting for the computer and feeling a bit tired. He mentioned something about the fact that he was writing a paper for his psychology class about the effects of stress. Apparently, I appeared to be a textbook case of stress overload or something. I'm not entirely sure, but I know that Carissa was laughing hysterically over in the book section after seeing all of this transpire. I explained the situation to her later, and we both had a great laugh over it. The volleyball game wasn't anything too exciting, as we lost miserably. Oh well, such is life. We were done with that by 7:30, so we headed back to our room, and were left to figure out something to occupy ourselves with for a few hours before it was bedtime. We eventually settled for figuring out how to remove a light fixture so that we could change a light bulb that has been out for a few weeks now. (Maintenance is virtually useless, so we have learned). The entire process of changing the light bulb was terribly hysterical, but it was also a situation that you had to be there to fully appreciate the humor of it. Needless to say, we were successful, and that was about the extent of my Tuesday activities.
Wednesday's excitement didn't happen until around 8:30 that night. On Monday night, I had told Tevis about the telescope on campus, and that last week my parents and I went and got to see Jupiter through it. He seemed genuinely interested in it, and told me that I needed to invite him to go look through it one day. Because it is only open on Wednesday and Thursday nights, and I knew that he had to work on Thursday, I figured that if he wanted to see Jupiter, Wednesday would be the night to do it, so I mentioned it that morning when I saw him between classes. He seemed pretty noncommittal at that point, but he was also half-asleep, so he wasn't too enthusiastic about anything. He told me that he would let me know what time if he was able to, so I went on my way. It was getting later in the evening, and I settled for catching up on episodes of "The Office", because that is literally the extent of my life some nights, and I figured that Tevis wasn't able to go that night. Just when I had made this premature assumption, my phone rang, and he asked me if I was ready to go over and look at Jupiter! We went over and looked at it, and it was awesome, although it was better the previous week when my parents and I were there. However, last week, the moon was almost full, and it was relatively close to Jupiter, so it blocked out a lot of its features and Tevis and I didn't get to see them as well. We also looked at some nebulae, which I always love. I really enjoyed spending a little bit of time with him that night, and it was also a cheap date, since it's free to go look through the telescope!
Thursday was my least eventful day, which is why I won't go into great detail about it. I would bore myself even typing about it, so I will just leave it at that.
After taking an unnaturally difficult Trig quiz, that wasn't really that hard, but required much more thought than usual, I experienced my high point of the day. Tonisha happened to be back in town for the weekend, so I hung out with her all afternoon! She was getting her hair done, so I went to watch while that happened. (Her mom is a hairstylist, btw, so it was no big deal for me to just hang out and talk to them.) As a reminder, Tonisha is black, and I have never seen her get her hair done. I also find the entire topic to be interesting, as her hair is so different from mine. She ended up getting her hair done in a "natural" style, which means that her hair has no chemicals on it. It is much shorter than I thought it would be, but it looks cute on her! What I enjoyed most was getting to catch up with my best friend, and just chat the afternoon away, like old times. I also enjoy talking with Tonisha's mom, Roslyn, so that made it even better. After she was done with her appointment, I brought her by my dorm and let her see it while I packed my things for the weekend. I stopped by her house for a little bit after I was done at my dorm, because Tonisha invited me over and her little niece was there. I didn't stay too long, but I enjoy going to her house because it feels like a second home to me. When I finally got home, I was greeted by Cody and Kyle, who were pretty excited to see me! It was great to be at home after a long week! Also, my mom made pork chops and stuffing for supper, so that made it even better.
The biggest thing I really accomplished on Saturday was getting my laundry done and the house tidied up a little bit. I got to see Wyatt, Andy, & Gina in the morning because Wyatt apparently missed me and wanted to come over to see me. I think they were both excited to see me, because they were constantly talking about something or getting my attention to let me see something they were doing, so much so that I was feeling a little bit overwhelmed for a few minutes. I got to go out with my dad, sisters, and Gina's boys to check cows, which was a nice way to get out of the house on a beautiful Saturday morning. After a little while of confusion about our exact plans, it was agreed that Tevis would come over here for supper last night. It was a little bit of a last-minute plan, but it worked nicely. He got lucky, because my dad pulled out rib eyes to put on the grill, and they were AWESOME! After supper, we watched "The Mask", which happens to be both mine and Tevis's favorite movie. He had to leave a little earlier than usual, so he could go home to make some food for church, but I was still happy that he was able to come out and eat with us. After he left, I even happened to stay awake for a little bit of SNL, although I didn't enjoy that episode as well as the others.
After all of that, I fell asleep, and ended the week on a high note. I am so blessed to have the life I have, and I couldn't be happier! I hope everyone else has a great week this week! (I will, because I have Fall Break on Thursday and Friday!)
Ah, the good times of college life. Enjoy!
